Florida is like nowhere else on Earth. From prehistoric cypress swamps to sandy Florida scrub, deep shady oak hammocks and of course the world’s only Everglades, you only have to look at Florida to see why we care so passionately about conserving it. One of our best tools to protect birds is to preserve the special places they rely upon, through our own acquisition, by supporting public acquisition, and by fostering best management practices for rural, private lands stewardship. Take a tour of some of our most precious places, where Audubon is making sure future generations will always be able to see Florida at its finest.

Did you know?
Florida burrowing owls, like the one to the right, live underground and hunt during the day! They may look fierce to a grasshopper, but not to a bulldozer; their preferred habitat is increasingly appropriated for urban sprawl.
