Northeast Florida’s wealth of wildlife ranges from maritime hammocks decorated with jewel-toned Painted Buntings, to thousand-fold flocks of migrating Red Knots foraging on coastal flats to Wood Storks bringing up their young in the wetlands of the mighty St. Johns River.

	Northeast Florida Projects As in all our regions, Audubon organizes its policy work in Northeast Florida around five core issues. Wildlife Conservation: Working with federal, state and local government partners to protect the globally significant shorebird resources in Jacksonville’s Nassau Sound and Ft. George Inlet. Land Acquisition & Management: Advocating for the renewal of the state’s conservation land-buying program, Florida Forever, and the acquisition of Northeast Florida’s remaining wild places. Water Quality and Quantity: Supporting legislative efforts that resulted in a $12M special appropriation in 2007-2008 for Lower St. Johns River restoration.
