As in all our regions, Audubon organizes its policy work in Northeast Florida around five core issues.
Wildlife Conservation:
Working with federal, state and local government partners to protect the globally significant shorebird resources in Jacksonville’s Nassau Sound and Ft. George Inlet. Read about the migration of Red Knots in the Jacksonville Times-Union here.
Land Acquisition & Management:
Advocating for the renewal of the state’s conservation land-buying program, Florida Forever, and the acquisition of Northeast Florida’s remaining wild places. View Northeast Florida’s proposed Florida Forever acquisitions here.
Water Quality and Quantity:
Supporting legislative efforts that resulted in a $12M special appropriation in 2007-2008 for Lower St. Johns River restoration.
